Make this easy, addictive snack mix featuring crunchy pretzels coated in a rich, buttery toffee. It balances sweet and salty flavors perfectly for parties or gifting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups mini pretzel twists
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1 cup toffee bits (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.
  3. Stir in the brown sugar, honey, salt, and vanilla extract into the melted butter.
  4. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring constantly. Let it boil for 2 to 3 minutes until it thickens slightly. This step helps achieve crunchiness.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mini pretzels with the hot toffee mixture. Stir gently until all pretzels receive an even coating.
  6. If you are using nuts, fold in the chopped pecans or walnuts now.
  7. Pour the coated pretzels onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading them into a single, even layer.
  8. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Stir the pretzels halfway through the baking time to ensure the coating sets evenly.
  9. Remove the sheet from the oven. If using, immediately sprinkle the toffee bits over the hot pretzels.
  10. Let the pretzels cool completely on the baking sheet without disturbing them. Cooling fully develops the crunch.
  11. Once cool, break apart any large clusters and serve this sweet salty snack recipe.

Notes

  • For maximum crunch, do not skip the baking step; this dries out the coating.
  • If you want a chocolate drizzle, wait until the pretzels are completely cool before adding melted chocolate.
  • This recipe makes an excellent homemade candy snack for holiday gifting.
