You can make these incredibly easy apple dumplings using store-bought crescent rolls. They feature warm, cinnamon-spiced apples baked in a rich brown sugar glaze for classic comfort flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and halved
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Take each apple half and generously rub the spice mixture into the cored area.
  4. Unroll the crescent roll dough. Separate the dough into 8 triangles.
  5. Place one spiced apple half onto the wide end of a crescent triangle. Wrap the dough around the apple, tucking the point underneath to seal it.
  6. Place the wrapped apples, seam-side down, in the prepared baking dish. Repeat with the remaining apples and dough.
  7. In a medium saucepan, combine the butter, granulated sugar, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  8. Carefully pour the hot brown sugar glaze evenly over the wrapped apple dumplings in the baking dish.
  9. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
  10. Let the apple dumplings cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

  • Serve these warm apple dumplings immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce for the best experience.
  • If you prefer a thinner sauce, you can add 1/4 cup of Sprite or lemon-lime soda to the glaze mixture before pouring it over the dumplings.
  • For an old-fashioned flavor, use slightly firmer apples that hold their shape well during baking.
