Make rich, comforting hot chocolate with almost no effort using your slow cooker. This recipe is perfect for holiday gatherings or cozy winter nights when you need a large batch of warm, creamy cocoa.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 gallon whole milk
  • 2 (14 ounce) cans sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (12 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Pour the whole milk into your slow cooker.
  2. Add the sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt to the slow cooker.
  3. Stir all ingredients together until the cocoa powder and chocolate chips begin to dissolve.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 2 to 3 hours, stirring every 30 minutes, until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth and hot. Do not let it boil.
  5. Once hot, switch the slow cooker to the KEEP WARM setting for serving.
  6. Serve the rich chocolate slow cooker beverage in mugs, topping with marshmallows or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

  • For an extra decadent flavor, substitute half of the whole milk with heavy cream.
  • If you need to keep the hot chocolate warm for an extended party, use the KEEP WARM setting only after the mixture is fully heated through on LOW.
  • This recipe makes a large batch, ideal for hot chocolate for a crowd.
