Bake soft, chewy, and buttery Christmas sprinkle sugar cookies without rolling dough. This easy, kid-friendly recipe is perfect for holiday parties and cookie exchanges.

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup Christmas sprinkles (red, green, and white mix)
  • 1/4 cup extra Christmas sprinkles for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until just combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Stir in 3/4 cup of the Christmas sprinkles until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  7. Place the remaining 1/4 cup of sprinkles on a shallow plate.
  8. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough and gently roll each scoop into a ball. Roll the dough ball in the extra sprinkles until coated.
  9. Place the coated dough balls onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between them. Gently press down on each ball with the bottom of a glass to slightly flatten it.
  10. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers still look soft.
  11. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For the softest cookies, measure your flour by spooning it into the measuring cup and leveling it off.
  • If you want a thicker cookie, chill the dough for 30 minutes before scooping and flattening.
  • Use jimmies or nonpareils style sprinkles for the best color saturation.
  • These are excellent for a quick Christmas dessert when you need a simple holiday treat.
