Make these easy BBQ chicken sliders using Hawaiian rolls for a crowd-pleasing appetizer or quick weeknight dinner. They feature juicy shredded chicken, smoky sauce, melted cheese, and a buttery top.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (12 count) package Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken works well)
  • 1 cup your favorite barbecue sauce (sweet and smoky preferred)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Gouda cheese
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried onion flakes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the shredded chicken and barbecue sauce. Mix until the chicken is fully coated.
  3. Slice the package of Hawaiian rolls horizontally, keeping the bottom and top halves intact. Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared baking dish.
  4. Distribute the BBQ chicken mixture evenly over the bottom layer of rolls.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the chicken layer.
  6. Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese and chicken.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, garlic powder, and dried onion flakes to create the garlic butter topping.
  8. Brush the entire top surface of the rolls generously with the garlic butter mixture.
  9. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake for 15 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and the tops of the rolls are golden brown and slightly crisp.
  11. Let the sliders rest for 5 minutes before slicing them apart between the rolls. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor and moisture, add 1/4 cup of finely chopped onion or a splash of apple cider vinegar to the chicken and BBQ sauce mixture.
  • If you prefer a tangier topping, mix 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard into the melted butter before brushing the tops.
  • Serve these sliders with a side of creamy coleslaw for added texture and freshness.
